The reason why Christ had to die is quite simple.
It’s so you and I could be rendered dead to laws that we cannot uphold. The law declares all flesh guilty before God. If a criminal dies before trial, is a judge going to drag his corpse through the courtroom to be judged and sentenced? Of course not. He is dead; therefore he is also dead to the law. When you believed that Christ died for your sins, YOU died! As far as God is concerned, your flesh was crucified with Christ 2,000 years ago. The law brings righteous judgment and condemnation. But by your DEATH, God declared your flesh dead to His judicial system. And not only did God crucify your flesh with Christ, but He raised you up with Him also in spirit. Because God rendered your flesh DEAD to the law through the DEATH of His Son, He could freely justify you unto eternal LIFE through the LIFE of His Son. After you died, God raised you with Christ into newness of life, declaring you righteous (justifying you) in the life of His Son. Salvation is purely an operation of God. You have absolutely no part in it. God crucifies you, He buries you, He raises you. HE is the one that justifies you. HE is the one that does it all. And He does it all by and through His Son’s performance, NOT your own. If God rendered your flesh DEAD TO THE LAW when He crucified you, then you should also be doing the same. Your flesh CANNOT please God, hence why He CRUCIFIED it when you believed the Gospel. He declared your flesh to be DEAD so that you wouldn’t have to be JUDGED according to it. And He raised you up in spirit, imputing to you the righteousness of CHRIST. If you’re striving under the law to please God in the flesh, then that should be your first red flag that perhaps you’re not trusting in the Gospel. Salvation is knowing that you CAN’T please God by the flesh, so you trust in the only One who did, and that’s Christ. By this, you are pleasing to God in spirit, being in Christ. It’s the only way. Your corrupt flesh cannot be perfected by the law. In fact, God says that it’s so corrupt, we’ll have to get *new* bodies fashioned in the likeness of Christ’s. God DESPISES our flesh. That’s why He’s not currently SEEING our flesh. He crucified it with Christ and buried it in the earth. Your flesh is DEAD TO HIM. For ye are DEAD, and your LIFE (spirit) is hid IN GOD with CHRIST. God’s not looking at your flesh. He’s looking at Himself! You are IN HIM, and GOD IS RIGHTEOUS! Believe it, know it, trust it. And don’t add even one tittle of the law to salvation or maintaining it. It’s GRACE THROUGH FAITH PLUS NOTHING. Salvation isn’t “giving your life to the Lord.” Salvation is the LORD GIVING HIS LIFE FOR YOU! It’s not about you. It’s about Him. Always, always. On your very best day, your “good deeds” are but FILTHY RAGS. The ONLY care God has about your religious works is that they CEASE. GOD DOES NOT WANT THEM. He wants what HE produces in your INNER MAN by His own Spirit. In your outer man (the flesh) DWELLETH NO GOOD THING! 1 Corinthians 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 2 Corinthians 10:17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. THE GOSPEL THAT SAVES YOU NOW! BELIEVE IT, RECEIVE IT! 1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 1 Corinthians 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Really good article and helpful in understanding justification by faith alone.
